Biden’s photo of himself taking a selfie with his dog at the Palm Beach Zoo is going viral, sparking a debate over whether the Vice President’s photograph is an act of photo-editing.

The photo, shot by former Miami Beach Police Chief Mark Stavrakopoulos, was taken during a visit to the zoo on Jan. 6, 2019.

The Vice President, standing next to his wife, Jill Biden, was wearing a t-shirt reading “Wish I Was There,” according to photos posted on Instagram by Stavroski.

Stavraksopoulos has since confirmed that he shot the photo himself, saying in a statement to ABC News that he “was just enjoying a photo-op with my dog” when he decided to take the picture.

But Stavrazsopoulos, a longtime Palm Beach County Police officer, did not explain the motivation for the shot.

“The reason I took the photo is that I thought the animal might be looking at my head,” Stavrahopoulos said in a phone interview with ABC News.

“It just happened that way.

It’s not my intention to hurt anyone or make a bad image of anyone.”

Stavrasopoulos said he did not know if the photo was doctored or if the Vice Presidential candidate took a break to take a shower.

He said he would have preferred not to shoot the photo if he knew it would not be viewed widely.

“I’m not trying to get in the middle of this,” Stovrasopoulos told ABC News by phone.

“But I want to respect the Vice Presidency.

I think I’m doing what I’m supposed to do.”

He said the Vice president has taken some selfies before, but none like the one that was posted on Tuesday.

“He did not take a selfie during his visit to Palm Beach.

He had just returned to his home state of Delaware and was on his way back to Florida,” Stravrakopoulos said.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from ABC News regarding whether the photo has been doctored.

“In order to promote his book, Biden has made several trips to his native state of Vermont, including a photo shoot in Burlington, Vermont,” Stivraksakis said.

“On his trip to Vermont, Biden was in a state park with his dogs, and his wife was standing nearby with her dog.”

The photo has garnered more than 1.2 million views on Instagram.

Biden and his dog, a Belgian Malinois named Fuzzy, have been featured in several books, including one by his wife’s best friend, Michelle Obama.

“For the last year, I’ve been thinking about the importance of taking a photo with my family, and I’ve found that the best photos don’t take place in the kitchen, the dining room or the living room,” Strivrakopoulos wrote in a blog post published Tuesday.

In his book about his family, The Life You Want: The Untold Story of Biden, Stavrapopoulos said that he used to do his own photo shoots when he was a cop.

“These days, I do it mostly with my wife and my children,” Stvrakopoulos told The Associated Press in a news release.

“As a family, we’re always on the lookout for ways to connect with our loved ones and make their day special.”

Stvroski said he was not aware of any doctored photos of Biden before the Biden photo was posted.

“This is the first I’ve seen where someone has doctored it and it’s just the picture that I took, so I’m not really sure if it’s been doctoring or not,” he told ABC’s This Week.

“You know, I think that’s the fun of the world.

I’m an avid photographer.”
